Using a Therapy Ball for Low Back Pain

A therapy ball is used as part of a rehabilitation plan when a patient is suffering with low back pain. Using the ball helps to strengthen the core muscles of the back. These muscles stabilize the spine.

The therapy ball give an element of instability. Over time this allows the muscles in the back to become stronger by the patient using them to balance on the ball. The back and abdominal muscles are strengthened.

Using the therapy ball allows the patient to develop and train their body's natural awareness. It is also theorized that using the therapy ball helps to lesson pain because the body is stimulated into producing more pain inhibitors.

Some benefits of the therapy ball include increased flexibility, improved muscle strength, and enhance balance and coordination.
